Fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors, Partners, and Guests;
As we start another Rotary Year, I applaud the Change Maker Team for the wonderful work and for raising the Rotary banner so high. You have exuded enormous amounts of energy in becoming the real positive change-makers in our communities. We hope that the great leadership skills you have learned will help steer our clubs and your lives to insurmountable heights.
Allow me to thank the Rotarians and Rotaractors, who have gladly accepted to be the Visionary bearers for the Rotary Year 2022/23 as we continue to serve above self. Congratulations upon being nominated, as we Imagine a Rotary where members act to make dreams become reality and also make the most of their club experiences.
Our Rotary International President, Jenifer Jones, urges members to engage more with each other and use these connections to build partnerships that change the world. She asserts that we need, “To imagine a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.’’ I, therefore, invite you to join me as we welcome the Visionary Team, Visionary AGs, Visionary Presidents, Visionary Rotarians, and Visionary Rotaractors.
Our flagship project for this Rotary Year will be Maternal and Child Health. Our countries (Uganda & Tanzania) have presented shocking figures of maternal and child mortality and as a service-oriented organization, we are concerned about this malaise. We must strive to keep mothers and newborns alive and thriving. This year, I dedicate the Governor’s chain to all mothers.
It is important that clubs come together and do major partnerships amongst themselves and also source for funds from major corporate companies because most of them are so willing to support community projects, considering our level of organization and the zeal of our members. As your District Governor, I will be on ground to celebrate with you, as we get our hands dirty, in taking these services to the people.
We are challenged to become pillars of strength to the Rotary Foundation, which is the engine through which our global philanthropy is achieved. I implore all of us to deliver District 9214 into 100% giving.
Our Rotaractors have been elevated to full members of Rotary International and this is a huge responsibility on us, their sponsors. We must mentor and endear them to the bigger family of Rotary, support them and ensure that they are guided in this transition process because they are the future of Rotary. The vibrancy and vigor they have must be utilized.
I encourage clubs to harness equity, diversity and inclusiveness. We must ensure that our members are fully involved in all the club activities and know what will help grow the club. We should identify the correct metrics to monitor our progress with time and mobilize ourselves to great changes. We shall focus on GREETERS and NEIGHBOURS during club meetings.
Congratulations, once again, and I look forward to meeting you all on my visits, starting with your projects. Remember Paul Harris said, “Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves.”
Peace TAREMWA
District Governor 2022/23
