USAID
The global partnership between Rotary International and USAID exemplifies how the private and public sectors can come together to enhance sustainable access to water and sanitation services to improve people’s health and well-being.
In 2019, Rotary District 9211 (Uganda and Tanzania) and the USAID funded Uganda Sanitation for Health Activity (USHA) established a three-year partnership for expanding sustainable
water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in 44 schools and 18 health facilities in ten districts of Uganda.
The number of districts targeted has since increased to 21; and 17,600 learners and 27,000 people are expected to benefit from the interventions.
The RI-USAID WASH partnership in Uganda is the second of its type globally – the other being in Ghana. Both USAID and Rotary have contributed Two Million dollars each to the programme. The Rotary contribution includes USD 200,000 raised from Rotary Clubs in Uganda.
The programme builds on the community connections and local influence of Rotarians in Uganda; and is being implemented by 24 Rotary Clubs and a Programme Management Team; with the support of the Host Organizing Committee (HOC) which provides strategic leadership.
