Weekly Message 13 September 2022

I am grateful once again for the opportunity to share weekly updates on our outstanding achievements and I hope you find them inspiring.  Moments like this bring me great joy, and I am confident that through these messages, you will continue to be kept updated on major events that take place in our mighty district.
For instance, last week I spent time with the Rotary Club of Kigo that is working tirelessly to improve community life in Mutungo community through partnerships with Mutungo Health Centre II and Mutungo Kitiko Church of Uganda (COU) Primary School.  The Club has donated medical equipment to the health centre, and raised USD 1,000 for a village ambulance. This support has led to the Local Government’s approval to upgrade Mutungo Health Centre II to Health centre III status. The partnership with New Vision Group also resulted in a donation of revision books to Mutungo Kitiko COU Primary school. I was privileged to officiate at the groundbreaking ceremony of a school Library that will be constructed by RC Kigo to house the donated books and many others that the school will acquire in the future.
Rotaractors from Entebbe Airport, Nkumba Stewards, Bwebajja, Kajjansi, Kampala Munyonyo, Kampala Muyenga Breeze, and Bunga, joined Rotaractors and youth from western Uganda on the Rwamwanja – Omungari Phase Three to plant more trees in Omungari. Looking at the more than three-meter-high trees planted in the first phase (under the guidance of the late Past President, Yoweri Ninsiima) was confirmation of a success story. The 5,000 seedlings delivered this time were a small fraction of what was expected given that  the community had prepared more than 15,000 holes for seedlings. We are already sending more than 10,000 seedlings to fill the demand.
With the strong support of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Vivo Energy Uganda, Kisubi Hospital, Century Bottling Company, Rotary Family Health Days, the Rotary Uganda County office, and over 120 Rotaractors, an impactful medical camp was opened on Saturday morning that handled close to 1,000 patients. The two-day successful events were sufficient to deserve the DG’s official meeting and hospitality which hosted more than 20 Rotaract clubs from as far as Kisoro, Bushenyi, and Bwindi (Kihihi).
It is in moments such as these that the theme of this Rotary year, “Imagine Rotary,” is brought to life. Surely, none of this would have happened if it were not for this great organization and its people of ACTION.
I NOW INVITE YOU TO JOIN ME FOR THE CAMPING FELLOWSHIP IN JINJA THIS WEEKEND
Yours in Rotary Service,
Peace Taremwa
