Weekly Message 4th December 2022

We are soon ending our first six months of the Rotary year and it is the perfect time to reflect on the many achievements we have made, and the inspiring lessons we are already adopting as we move into the second half.  I am very confident that we are on course to achieve our annual goals as a District and ensure that we have strong leaders who will continue to grow D9214 into the best District one can ever imagine. A big thank you to our Visionary leaders, and Rotarians for all that you are doing- your time, financial resources, creative ideas and the passion with which you serve are all incredible gifts to Rotary.
Two weeks ago, I had the honour of officially visiting and celebrating the Charter of the Rotary Club of Kyengera Town. Prior to the celebrations, I commissioned their Nabbingo Health Centre Solar-Power Project for the maternity ward. During the Charter celebrations, I welcomed 35 new members to the Club and witnessed a fruitful fundraiser for lighting another block at the health facility with solar power.  Congratulations to RC Kyengera for sponsoring this strong Club.
On Wednesday, 30 November 2022, we celebrated our gifts to the Rotary Foundation in a marvellous style. I would like to thank Visionary President Ruth Kijjambu and the members of RC Muyenga for accepting to host this special District event. Thanks to PDG Ken Mugisha, District TRF Chair James Kusemererwa, PAG Hannifer Musoke and the organizing team for a great job.  I’m proud of the nearly USD 200,000 achievement to date which puts us on target against our 2022-2023 TFR goal. The District’s current Global Grant projects are valued at USD 2.2m in Tanzania and USD 3m in Uganda. For this Rotary Year, our Global Grant utilization stands at nearly USD 900,000 at the end of November 2022. With this performance, I’m confident we will achieve our annual utilization goal of USD 1M by the end of this Rotary Year.
Our District Membership Committee, led by Rtn. Peter Kaggwa held an online membership seminar last Saturday that was not only instructive but also engaging. Training and continuous learning is a one of our key priorities this Rotary Year because as a young district, we need knowledgeable Rotarians to lead D9214. We will continue to hold trainings for the rest of this year, and I appeal to all Rotarians to participate whenever called upon. A team that learns together grows together. To the organizers and trainers, thank you for sharing your valuable time and knowledge, and for the momentum and commitment towards a thriving D9214.
My impromptu visit to RC Bwerenga to listen to PAG Christine Kawooya’s mobilization talk on the 98th DISCON was a clear indication that we need to focus on registering for the DISCON before the deadline of 31st December 2022. After her presentation, over 10 members were able to register for the DISCON. I encourage all clubs to hold a 10 mins DISCON activation during December fellowships and register as many members as possible. The DCA Chair, PAG Daniel Ddamulira and his team are readily available to support all clubs to register for the DISCON.
WE ARE ONLY 24 DAYS TO THE END OF THE EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION FOR THE 98TH DISCON.
REGISTER NOW AND PAYUP BEFORE 31ST DECEMBER 2022.
